Ugly Betty is an American dramedy tv series developed by Silvio Horta, based on the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, which was created by Fernando Gaitán. The show ran for f0ur seasons on ABC, from September 2006 to April 2010. The executive producers were Salma Hayek, Silvio Horta, Ben Silverman, Jose Tamez, and Joel Fields.

The series revolves around Betty Suarez, a 24-year-old Mexican American woman, who is sorely lacking in fashion sense. She is abruptly thrust into a different world when she lands a job at Mode, a trendy high fashion magazine that is part of the publishing empire of the wealthy Bradford Meade. Bradford's son Daniel, the Editor-in-Chief of Mode, has a reputation of sleeping with his assistants. Bradford hires the inexperienced Betty as Daniel's personal assistant to curb his son's bad habit. As time goes by, Betty and Daniel become friends and help each other navigate their professional and personal lives. Life at Mode is made difficult for both of them by the Creative Director, Wilhelmina Slater, a vindictive schemer who devises numerous plots to steal Daniel's job and seize control of his family's company.

Ugly Betty won numerous awards in 2007 -- two Golden Globe Awards in 2007 for "Best Leading Actress in a Comedy Series" (America Ferrera) and Best Comedy Series; a Screen Actors Guild Award for "Best Actress in a Comedy Series" (Ferrera); and a Peabody Award for the show's storylines, which explores clashing concepts of beauty, class, race and footwear with intelligence, warmth and wit.
