Xena first appeared on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Interest in her was so strong that shortly afterwards, she became the main character of the spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess. Produced by Pacific Renaissance Pictures Ltd and distributed by Universal Studios, the tv show ran for six seasons, from 1995 to 2001. Tough celebrity chick Lucy Lawless played the title role.
Set in ancient Greece, the tv series also featured heavy Oriental, Egyptian, and Medieval elements in various episodes. It freely borrowed names and themes from various mythologies around the world, primarily Greek, adapting them to suit the demands of the storyline. Location of the show was in new Zealand.
